April Housing Transfers Ownership of Historic LGBTQ+ Seniors Affordable Housing Complex to Mission-Driven Non-Profit

March 23, 2023 – April Housing (“April”), a Blackstone Real Estate portfolio company, has officially transferred ownership of the historic Triangle Square Apartments, the nation’s first LGBTQ+-affirming affordable housing seniors’ community, located in West Hollywood, to the Los Angeles LGBT Center.

“This truly groundbreaking affordable community was created to be a safe, healthy and affordable environment friendly to LGBTQ+ seniors, where they can live, thrive and age with respect and dignity,” said Alice Carr, CEO of April Housing, former ownership partner of Triangle Square Apartments. “April Housing is so proud to see the Los Angeles LGBT Center officially take full ownership of Triangle Square and thrilled to support the important work they do.”

Led by general partner, McCormack Baron Salazar, the 104-unit building opened in 2007, becoming the first affordable housing complex in the nation to specifically address the needs of LGBTQ+ elderly adults, who often struggle to afford housing and can be less likely to have children or grandchildren to support them. In addition to housing, Triangle Square residents have access to the full range of services and support provided by the Center, including case management; home-delivered meals; in-home care and benefits assistance; connection to health and mental health care; HIV support and wellness; counseling and support groups; and more than 75 monthly activities and events provided for free or at low-cost. 

The ownership transfer officially closed on March 16, 2023. The organization hosted an appreciation dinner for the residents when the intention to transfer ownership was announced in January 2023.
